Ohio State's General Education is designed to develop and refine qualities, abilities and characteristics that prepare its students to be engaged, resilient and adaptable citizens and leaders for life.

General Education (GE) courses teach essential university-level skills and introduce fundamental ideas in arts, humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences.

Every student at Ohio State completes courses in General Education (GE). Although these GE courses are meant to provide a broad baseline of learning, often times the courses supplement the student's major or program.

Oregon State, often called OSU, is the state's largest public research university, which specializes in studies of marine sciences, forestry, sustainable food systems and more.

The requirement for general education courses is intended to expand students' knowledge beyond their main area of study, ensuring a well-rounded learning experience. These courses are designed to develop critical thinking abilities, enhance communication skills, and teach basic knowledge in many subjects.

Does OSU accept 3.0 GPA? ›

Selective direct enrollment criteria: Admitted students who have a high school GPA of 3.0 or higher OR who rank in the top 60% of their high school class are enrolled directly enrolled in the major. Students not directly enrolled will enroll as pre-majors.

What GPA is required for Ohio State? Applicants' GPA when applying to OSU should be between 3.6 and 4.0 to be strong candidates.

Launch seminar: During their first three semesters, students will complete a seminar that asks them to define their academic and career goals. It will also highlight the paths through the GE for developing their interests.

Students can apply up to two Theme courses to their major. The courses must be in different Themes (one in Citizenship and one in the “choice” Theme). Foundation courses cannot apply to the major directly but may be counted as prerequisite or major-foundational courses. Minors can overlap up to 6 credits with the GE.
